Snickerdoodles

Just so you know, I didn't forget to update things around this place for the holiday. Snickerdoodles are in the house!

Figuratively, cookie baking day is scheduled for Saturday then they'll really be in the house...until I eat them.

Hopefully later today I'll have time to come back and update some content with the next list of gift inspirations.

Some Of The Best Of Me

Sometimes my best work comes in 140 characters or less. I don't know if it is a statement on the capacity of my brain, a statement on the world today, or a testament to my incredible ability to edit out the crap. I tried linking the Tweets up here so that they'd magically appear once a day, but I quickly realized that somedays I have some wild and drunken twittersations with a few local bloggy friends and my side of the conversation gives the appearance that I am (A) an alcoholic, and (B) bug nuts.

Here are some that I am remarkably happy with that may or may not reflect my current state of mind:

Ahhh the politics of life in a cube farm. Lesson 1) The person you threw under the bus last year still remembers & will get revenge.

Sarcasm is often wasted on those with no sense of humor

I have returned from happy hour! The good news is I'm happy and it was more than an hour. Bad news is it's over.

Okay, that last one wasn't exactly sober but I was happy. It had been preceeded by this, so I believe I was entitled:

Demanding more than you've rightfully earned is selfish when you are taking away from what others have worked hard for.

That was not a political statement, it was a widget inspired statement.

Doesn't matter how much or what color lipstick you use, Greed can't be made pretty.

Despite all the things I said earlier I would like 2 add the caveat that if it involves me & margaritas a nice pink gloss makes greed pretty.

There are those who believe Twitter & Facebook have ruined blogging and that all of this social media and instant publishing is killing creativity. I wonder... isn't that why I was here in the first place was to hone my own creative spirit? What am I supposed to do with that thought now?

The Mulligan - Frequently (or not) Asked Questions

So I come cruising by here last Friday, drop a bomb and then "poof".
No explanations, no response to comments, Just silence.

I thought the best way to handle my absence & neglect would be to turn your comments into a FAQ kind of thing - basically a different version of bullets.

The Mulligan - FAQ:

MoMMY Says/Asks: I can't wait to see the changes!

Answer: Me too! But I wouldn't go holding your breath or anything because I am the busiest I have ever been at work and at home. Things will likely come slowly and I would consider molasses in January quick.
Vicki Knitorious Says/Asks: Wow!!!!! Maybe that's what I need! Wipe the slate (with back up) and start anew... Hm. I can't wait to see the changes, too.

Answer: I am a shameless enabler, so I say DO IT! (see above regarding changes)
Guinifer Says/Asks: Well - I'd like it if you kept your recipe posts - they're kind of a standby at our house! Otherwise- clean slates are a magical thing!

Answer: I'm glad you like the recipes! I'll make bringing them all back a priority over the other changes. They are all safely backed up so it shouldn't be a big deal.
Keri Says/Asks: LOL. I've had so many clean slates... But usually with no warning. Have fun!

Answer: I know - you have more than once made everything go bye-bye including your domain. Fortunately I know your email address so I can stalk you in that manner. Stalking via email is fun!
Chris Says/Asks: Wow, all your archives, *poof*?! You're very, very brave. :)

Answer: Well, not THAT brave. They are saved & easily accessible in a different private web location. I am officially a hoarder of blog posts.
Annonymous Mr. Motorcycle Says/Asks: Does this mean you are thinking of coming out of the blogger closet?

Answer: Are you kidding? Do you know the people I know in real life? (yes) There isn't a chance in hell that I'm going to start being more open about this. This is my place - not a place for people to go peeking around unless they are either (a) complete strangers (b) former complete strangers or (c) invited. You I invited - everyone else, not so much.
Jen Says/Asks: Yeah, what Mr. Motorcycle said! And don't you go disappearing; I think you're the only blog I still read from when I started reading 5 years ago!

Answer: I'm not disappearing, will not be invisible, just cleaning house. It might be a hoarders thing.
Hillary Says/Asks: Wow! That's brave. I can't imagine wiping it all clean although I bet that it's freeing.

Answer: It was a lot easier than you'd think! I backed everything up, picked a few to keep and then went to town with the delete button.
CursingMama Says/Asks: So! now that you've done this and you're all free and clear and all that nonsence are you ever planning on going back to some kind of regular posting or is this really just step 1 of a phase out.

Answer: I have no intention of phasing out, I really love this place. BUT! I'm really super busy - and life takes priority over blogging, it has to be that way. So, until I'm back in a more regular fashion I'll just distract you with pretties and quizzes and meme's Oh My!

Clean Slate

For some time I have been thinking about the idea of a do-over, a mulligan, a fresh start, a clean slate.

Aside: the whole clean slate thing has been brewing in the back of my head for a long time and I had half a post written that related to my love of the Little House on the Prairie series of books from when I was a kid and how I always wanted to be like Half-pint with her slate in school. I however did not want to school in winter OR have an over achieving with the needle and thread older sister. Apparently this Little House On The Prairie thing is a concept I can not let go of.

For more than 6 years I have been posting to this website, with my very first burst of brilliance coming on September 1st of 2004 and aptly titled

On that day I laid out a few facts about who I was, what I hoped to accomplish by maintaining a blog and my hope to keep the whole thing super duper secret. Shockingly I have yet to reveal this online home to anyone beyond my husband in the years since and the only people I know in real life who know anything about this blog (that I know of) are people I've met because of blogging.

I was also 34 back then and thought I knew a thing or two about being an adult...I'm sure I've proven myself wrong about that here a lot.

There is an off-chance that my appearance on the Yarn Harlot blog may have led to my being identified by a school secretary but since I squelched her question about Stephanie I don't believe she has pursued my true identity. I could be totally wrong.

In those 6+ years I've written a lot. Some things I shouldn't have, but a lot of things I'm proud of - given opinions that were asked for, some that were not, and some I no longer have. I've taken quizzes, posted drivel, passed along meme's and shared some photos.... there is a lot in the archives of CursingMama.

A set of archives I've decided to wipe clean, call a mulligan, re-do, start fresh.

There will be some changes here at CursingMama in the coming weeks.
The past is already mostly gone (although not totally and I do have a back-up copy)(this is why 2 posts from 2006 for some reason decided to repost yesterday afternoon), there are some redesign things in the fetus stages of planning, and I hope to be back up and writing regularly before the US Thanksgiving Holiday, Halloween if you're good.

This feels better than I ever could have imagined and it isn't quiet as drastic or dramatic as one of my current favorite songs.....but still related.

They say an Apple a day

I'm not the kind of person who is "WILD FOR APPLE". I spend most of my waking hours operating in PC, and regular plain old no fancy stuff phone; it is what my business requires and denise, so the fruit tends to baffle, confuse and frustrate me.

I'm not used to it and I don't have time to learn it. All of my ipod/itunes learning has come straight from my children and it is not uncommon for me to say things like:

CursingMama: Gameboy, there is an offensive song on my playlist, will you get it off. (hands him old ipod)

Gameboy: You can't get them off that way.

CursingMama: What way?

Gameboy: *sighs* You have to delete it from your play list in itunes, then sync to your ipod.

CursingMama: *blinks*

Gameboy: *hands back ipod*

CursingMama: *hides hands and ipod falls to floor*

Gameboy: *picks up ipod* so you'd like me to do that for you?

CursingMama: You're so sweet to offer

Gameboy: *sighs* what is the offensive song?

CursingMama: I don't remember exactly...why don't you just go through my list and clean things up.

And that is how I get things like Saliva on my ipod which was probably the offensive song in the first place. I like it when his evil plan backfires and I LOVE what he's added so much I won't stop playing it.

Gameboy: That is the fourth time you've played that Marilyn Manson song.

CursingMama: I know, I love it! Thank you for adding it to my play list!

Gameboy: Did you want me to clean up your playlist for you again tonight?

Anyway, I find myself in a situation very similar to that of biblical Adam. I am Tempted by the Fruit of Another (I wonder if that is in our Itunes library? Maybe Gameboy can get me that?!?). The other evening I was at the rink and there was a mom there from another team showing off her shiny new ipad (still snicker when I see that because it really does remind me of feminine products).

I don't know if you realize this, but that ipad is a lot like my netbook except it has a touchy screen and no keyboard. I have NO need for this device and yet...I want one. I don't know why, I don't know what I'd do with it other than flash it around at the rink and say stupid stuff like:

CursingMama: I should check my email on my shiny new ipad.

CursingMama: I could google that on my shiny new ipad.

CursingMama: I should read that on my shiny new ipad.

Wait! then I'd be just like that other lady...
Never mind, I like being an original.

My Vast Internet Empire

CursingMama's Vast Internet Empire

Note: the benevolent leader wears cute pink clothes
and rules all the margaritas as well

The other day, completely out of left field (while in a group of people whom I was not comfortable revealing the extent of my vast internet empire to) the following took place:

Gameboy:
Mom
CursingMama: Fiddling with itouch game called Unblockme free which flummoxes me mightily. I am not a great puzzle solver, or maze runner.

Gameboy: (louder) Mom!
CursingMama: What?!?
(concentration totally broken)

Gameboy: Do you Twitter?
CursingMama: What?
(fine, it was a stalling technique)

Gameboy: Do. You. TW IT TER ?
(condescending little fuck don't you think?)
(probably learned it from his father, his mother would never speak to anyone in that manner.)

CursingMama: No, Do You?
(liar, liar, pants on fire)

Gameboy: Eerily silent
CursingMama: goes back to mastering Unblockme making mental note to scour Twitter for son.
